String Serenade 5/16/2015

The Suzuki Talent Education Partnership invites you to an Inspiring, Fun, Multigenerational Suzuki String Serenade

Sat. May 16th at 6:30 PM

Enjoy the beautiful acoustics at the magnificent Christ Church Cathedral when STEP presents its 26th Annual Suzuki String Serenade! Christ Church Cathedral is located at 35 Chestnut St. on the Quadrangle in Springfield.  The concert will benefit the STEP Scholarship Fund; a donation of $12 in advance or $15 at the door is requested.  Children are free when accompanied by an adult. For tickets call Lani Bortfeld, director, at (413)734-4458.

The STEP Suzuki Strings, comprised of teachers and STEP students aged 5 to adult, will present a polished, inspiring, family-friendly concert of folks songs, classics, and international music. The 6:30pm benefit concert will open with Classical Bash, an enjoyable arrangement of excerpts from the works of Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart.  The concert will continue with such classics as Mozart’s Concerto No. 5, third movement, with soloist Lani Bortfeld and the Danza Pastorale from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with student Grace Farris, soloist. The STEP String Quartet will give a spirited performance of Scott Joplin’s The Easy Winners, the audience will sing along to Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, and the concert will close with the Shona piece Maiwe from Zimbabwe.  Families interested in learning more about the Suzuki method are encouraged to attend the free Twinkle prelude at 6:15pm.

A dessert buffet will follow the concert, during which winners for the STEP Scholarship Basket Raffle will be chosen. Raffle tickets for the fabulous baskets may be purchased at the concert, and are 1 for $2, 3 for $5, and 15 for $20. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund, which provides need-based financial aid to deserving STEP students.
